Accessibility Audits & Training, SYMCA

Website Audits

We possess more than two years of experience in evaluating websites for compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Our engagement with SYMCA involves designing, prototyping, and revitalizing existing services, including conducting monthly accessibility audits. SYMCA, a local government website, necessitates adherence to WCAG 2.1 AA and GDS compliance to fulfil the 2018 accessibility regulations. Our assessment employs Wave and Axe tools, complemented by a Colour Contrast Analyser, which verifies content’s adherence to appropriate colour contrast standards. Periodically, we update the accessibility statement to provide a concise overview of the audit’s rectifications and any instances of ‘disproportionate burdens.’ These refer to challenges beyond our control that are either excessively costly to address or necessitate further investigation.

Daily Meetings

To effectively manage the workflow and maintain open communication among the Development, Operations, and Content teams, we conduct daily stand-up meetings. These sessions facilitate the discussion of work items and the allocation of tasks to specific team members using Azure DevOps. This integrated approach ensures seamless collaboration and efficient progress towards accessibility and compliance goals.

Ongoing Support

In tandem with our commitment to accessibility, we provide essential accessibility training to the content team. This training equips them with the knowledge and tools they need as they continue enhancing websites like Travel South Yorkshire and SYMCA. Our considerable knowledge in User Experience (UX) has also positioned us to offer valuable insights and guidance to the team, informing future design improvements that cater to users from diverse backgrounds and capabilities. This holistic approach not only ensures compliance but also elevates the overall digital experience for all users.
